A midwife at my doctors office prescribed progesterone but didn't even test my levels first or really even talk to me about it. I'm terrified to take it but I'm also terrified not to. What would you do? Also, in the appointment summary she put "threatened miscarriage" in the diagnosis section. She didn't even look at me or ultrasound or anything to suggest a miscarriage so I'm freaking out over here.

Personally I would just get an OB

@reyesmomma, I have an OB but they didn't have any appointments and all I needed was blood work to test my HCG levels and make sure they are rising. So they booked the appointment with the midwife (I've never seen a midwife before, always been an OB)

I wouldn't take anything you don't know why your taking !! Specially if you haven't had any testing to cause her to put you on that . Now if she went through your files and saw something on there then that would explain it but still you need to talk with her before you put anything in your body that could have any affect on your pregnancy .

I would make another appointment, but still take it. It's not going to hurt anything. It helps the baby attach and stuff, and is pretty important. I miscarried my first pregnancy because I didn't know my levels were low. If I didn't take it with my son then he probably wouldn't be here right now. Now I will know next time that I need to take it right when I find out.

Its not going to have any BAD effect, but it helps the baby. It isn't going to harm anything. I actually was taking mine for too long and my doctor just told me I didn't need to be taking it past 12wks pregnant. Because the baby is already attached and all of that, no more need for the progesterone. I would take it until your advised that you can stop.

I would definitely take it. They never tested me beforehand either but my ob had me on it the first 13 weeks this pregnancy. It's a good safeguard against miscarriage. A lot of ppl have low levels of progesterone and don't even know it. I had 3 miscarriages and no clue that it could be possibly linked to lacking enough progesterone in my first trimester ( after 13 weeks your body makes enough on its own). I know for me having it made me less paranoid because knowing that your body only digests the amount it needs and naturally gets rid of the rest and that it helps prevent miscarriage was all I needed to take it. Don't stress you'll be fine :) I had a subhemmoragerial clot from implantation this time and went to the ER because I was bleeding, they marked me as a threatened miscarriage ( luckily they were wrong), they really need to be more sensitive to wording things on charts, being pregnant is scary enough!
