I just looked it up a little and from what I read and remember is it's unpaid leave all it does is protect your job where they can't fire someone. If he has sick or vacation days he should use that instead if his boss let's him bc that way he'll get paid but here is a link that you can read.

My husband did fmla paperwork a month before my due date. He gets paid his regular paycheck. He's was able to take a month off. The lady who filed the paperwork said they can take up to 12 weeks!@ssdj4

@ssdj4, yes, what mm ichelle2220 said. I am on short term disability now and can be for up to 5 months (paid), if I myself, am out longer it will go to long term which is at 80% pay. Once the little guy is born, I will only have my disability for 3 months (c section and tubal) and then will have to use FLMA which is 100% UNPAID, while my son is in the CVICU and NICU. You might have your hubby call HR and chat with them on options. They can offer advice and are legally not allowed to tell his employer what they discussed

I filed my FMLA 30 days before my due date. My husband only took a week off and that was paid cause it was his vacation. Me on the other hand, had to use my sick & annual leave to get a paid while off from having my baby. It's been unpaid unless u have time to use up! FMLA protects your job while you are gone, thats is all it does.
