I had to fight my parents on this issue as well because back in their day they flipped their children around at 1 years old. there wasn't enough research to prove that it was harmful. now there is tons of research. my mother wasn't educated on the topic but once I showed her the facts she agreed it's best for my daughter to rear face for as long as possible. It depends on the state but you can rear face up into the age of 4. Some states its the law to rear face until at least 2. It's really just depends on the law for your state and what your comfortable with. You can also go to your local fire department for car seat checks and they can explain the difference and what's best dor your child.

please find a cpst. most fire stations and police stations are not properly trained on car seat safety and are not certified. please find someone who is. a cpst can explain to your mother why it is so important to rear face for as long as possible. it's ultimately your decision since he is your son your mom should respect that
