As a person who works in the veterinary field, I feel I can chime in. The answer is yes, you probably can do both. The reason it isn't a great idea is that you'll choose human baby needs over fur baby needs, and puppies require a lot of work and attention to grow up to be good dogs. That window of time is fairly short, and you should try to do it when you have few distractions. House training gets you up at all hours of the night and obedience training takes tons of repetition and focus. Also, the first year of life is expensive! Lots of shots, spay/neuter surgery, buying all the gear (collars, leashes, dog kennel, dog bed, etc.), and hopefully paying for puppy classes so you can get training started right.

Imagine getting up to change a diaper and stepping in puppy poop, or a reckless puppy chewing baby toys, or a naughty puppy jumping on baby. I just want to be honest and tell you how I see it. I call raising young dogs "puppy hell" because it is so much work. That is without a baby of your own.

Anyway, yes, you can do all of these things with a babt and a puppy, but it will make your life harder. I urge you to really think about it, because bringing another life into your family is a forever commitment and it is best to make sure you have the time, energy, and focus to make sure that puppy grows up into a well behaved dog. 💛
