Had a dr appt today for baby girl. He asked how much she was eating and I told him her average per day. He told me she's eating too much and I need to cut her back! She's eating 2-4 oz per feeding, every 3-4 hours. I have an app that I track her eating on and she usually gets between 19 and 24 ounces a day, which from what I read is kind of normal. He told me to get her on a schedule and only feed her 2 ounces every 4 hours. That doesn't seem like enough at all?! I just can't in good conscious not feed my baby when she acts like she's hungry. Plus, even if I am feeding her too much, too much is infinitely better than not enough!

My girl was drinking about the same and her pediatrician was super happy with it. As long as your baby isnt gaining too much.

I agree completely, they may know textbook answers to this but they don't know individual people and what their "normal" is. @jessicarose0602 thank you for the kind words (:

a baby will let you know when they are hungry and most of the time will let you know they are full. sometimes they can over eat a little if they eat formula. takes my daughter a minute sometimes to realize she's full but I have no issues. now she's almost 4 months and eats anywhere from 4-6 oz per feeding. you're doing a good job. doctors don't always give the best advice about that kind of stuff in my opinion... just MY opinion though. you know your child better than they do on a personal level.. when they are hungry, upset, etc. a fed baby is a happy baby. 💕💕💕

I was just talking about how I wanted to switch pediatricians and just hearing y'all makes me want to even more now. He dismisses everything I ask about and now telling me this?? Thank you, I knew it was more or less normal for that amount. @babynessa

Exactly! She very rarely spits up. She's 9 lbs now, up from 7 lbs 5 oz. I'm not sure how much is deemed a "good" weight for her, but I feel she's doing ok? He told me formula fed babies tend to eat more but she lets me know when she's done, she'll either start spitting it out or she'll clamp her mouth shut when I take it out to check how much she's eaten and won't open back up. @jennatess

I fed my daughter 4oz every 2-3 hours when she was around your child's age. My daughter's doctor never told me it was too much but to feed her when shes hungry because a happy full baby makes a happy mom. is what she told me. keep doing what your doing.

I mean even what she eats varies, like sometimes she wants just an ounce and a half and then another ounce and a half an hour later sometimes she'll eat 4 ounces in one sitting, it just...2 every 4 hours for a 5 week old?! But thank you, I just nodded and smiled. I'll continue feeding her what I feel is best. If she acts like she's hungry then by God she'll eat! @jessicarose0602

Eh. Honestly, unless she's clearly over-weight, or has any medical issues, then I'd tell him to shove it. (Maybe more politely 🤗). I'm a firm believer that at that age, you can't "over feed" a child. They eat what they need. If she ate too much, you'd know for sure. #SpitUpEverywhere
