My son is a week old. He has been a very quiet baby since we've had him. We've mastered breastfeeding and he eats very well. He gives me no signal of being hungry he only whimpers or squeaks. When he sleeps he only whimpers or squeaks. My husband read that we should put him on his back to sleep. But I'm afraid he will get a flat head. I've always been taught in past experience that you only put newborns on their sides. So can I get some advice?

They usually say on their backs is best. He may not develop a flat head

Is the silence normal?

Yes. It's safer for them to sleep on their backs but when you and they are awake you should have them on your chest as much as possible. That's what we did with my son. After about 6 weeks or so we would put him on his belly for nap time and that helped a lot too.

And my son never really cries unless he was past hungry. He would do this "he he" sound and that how I would know he was hungry

What if he develops a flat head?

@babyshreiner16, sleeping on their back is safest but in order to avoid a flat spot turn baby's head when asleep (not constantly) left side, right side, middle. Like one nap have his head on the left, next nap middle, next nap right or whatever order. Then when he's awake and when he gets older work on tummy time. Since he's so young lay him on your stomach/chest then eventually use a boppy pillow when he's older.

We do skin to skin during morning and evening feeds. I'm so afraid of putting him on his back. What if he chokes on milk on his back?
