Imagine having just given birth via c-section to your child. You've had to wait to hold your little one until you and baby are stable, and when that moment finally comes, it's glorious. Just blissful 👶🏽💞
Now imagine, at the point of discharge when you receive an itemized bill of the charges for your stay, you read the following:
skin-to-skin contact after c-section - $39.35 - quantity - 1
Hold the phone. Am I reading that right?

Yep, totally read that right.
Thank goodness this mom didn't ask for skin-to-skin twice.
For a little more context, the charge is due to the staff it requires to bring the baby to mom while she is still on the table. This ensures baby is safe. But still, it would be nice if we moms could just get one freebie.

i seen this article on Facebook its absolutely ridiculous 😕 40 dollars just to hold your baby ? That's supposed to be a special moment for you , your SO and your little one not a stressful time once you see the bill 😴 thats really petty like fr 💯

They should either word this differently, or just include it in the delivery. Their wording makes it seem like it's an option to hold your baby after they come out. Skin to skin is so important for a baby. It helps them stay warm after coming into a world that's nothing like the womb. It's important for the baby's survival that they have skin to skin. Them using this wordings makes it seem like it's not important at all.

I'm studying to be a nurse and the charge is because they have to have another nurse come into the room to help carry the baby to mom and monitor them but as far as coding there should be a better way to have it written up

I was charged by my OB $900 when I was pregnant and then baby came early on a holiday (4th of July) and he was out of town so the hospital delivered her(the nurses/no doctor) and now I received a bill for $700 from the hospital. My OB returned $600 of it to me but I had to turn around and give it plus some back to the hospital.

If they gave the option to hold Oliver right after the c section I would have done it. I had to wait 36 or so hours before holding him, sooooo...... I don't think it's ridiculous.

Wait what! MY child! I hold him/her WHENEVER I want to with NO charge. That's ridic. No one can charge u for holding your own child

The thing Is that after your child is born via csection you are on a surgery table with you stomach cut open and there has to be a nurse right there with you if your having immediate skin to skin, which means they have to have an extra nurse there with you just for that, while the rest of them are trying to help the doc sew you back up. So yes there has to be a charge because that is the nurses time, and they work hard and long hours .I wouldn't mind paying that . Even if it seems a bit ridiculous it's the way the world goes round people have to get paid for their services.

no, when I had a csection, there were tons of extra nurses on hand just because it was their job. when I was handed my baby, there were 3 other nurses just standing around just in case. none were there for only the reason of handing a baby over. the nurse who took the baby from the Dr brought her over after weighing and recording. @alyssabrittany
