Any of you mamas strictly pump and bottle feed? I took my LO to the doctor tomorrow about her puking. She's gained weight and is healthy. I've tried everything the Dr and LC suggested, everything you guys suggested, and everything I found on Google. She's still puking. And only when I nurse her. She does fine with a bottle. I'll nurse her, burp her, keep her sitting up, shell puke a ton about 20 mins later and then want to nurse 10 mins after I'm assuming because she's puking up most of what she's getting. Then I end up using the milk in the fridge anyway because my supply isn't the quick at filling back up. I'm frustrated and freaked out. I might go to strictly pumping and bottle feeding..
@lexij, hmm. Do you have a forceful let down? If your flow is too fast and hard right away it can force a lot of air into her tummy
@marzuniversal, she only nurses for 8-10 mins on one side each time she eats
Don't worry too much. A lot of breast fed babies eat too much because they also nurse for comfort and to be close to you. If she normally stays on the breast for 30 minutes, try I latching her after 20. Burp her after every 5-10 minutes of nursing. If she's still puking a lot, cut down to 15 minute sessions. You might have to nurse more frequently but it should help.
@lexij, the way my dr described it to me was, even though he was projectile throwing up, he was still getting plenty of nutrients because he was gaining weight and having plenty of pee and poop diapers. She said that the vomiting was scary but that it was just messy and baby was fine. I personally couldn't just pump but if you've got a good stock and you are getting a lot when you pump, go for it! You gotta do what you are comfortable with ❤️
@babycromer, I have some stocked already so I'm not worried about that. plus at this point I just want her to keep something down...
@lexij, that's how my son was. He would eat a lot, throw up, and then want to be put right back on the boob. He lived there for a few weeks but it did get better. I thought about strictly pumping too but ended up just touching out having him latched almost 24/7. I feel like if I had tried pumping I wouldn't have pumped enough to feed him and would have had to supplement with formula and that was something I wanted to avoid.
she's only 2 weeks old and she seems fine after before bit after she screams to be fed again. @babycromer
Is baby acting fussy when she pukes? Also how old is the little one? My son did the same thing. I was convinced he had acid reflux, even though the puking never bothered him. I took him to the dr and because he was gaining weight consistently the dr said he was 'over eating'. His little belly could hold 3-4 ounces but he would eat 5-6 off boob (guessing here bc you can't exactly measure how much they eat from the breast). The 3-4 would settle in his stomach but the extra 1-2 ounces would go down and his belly would already be full so it had nowhere to go but up. He would have projectile puking. Would scare me to death, but never bothered him. Once he turned 3 months it eased and now we haven't had any projectile puke in almost a month!
Ive unlatched her and let some or before relatching and she still pukes. I've also relief leaning back which some say works but it didn't for her.
