I don't think he'd get a new number. Start at the court house or S.S office, call them and ask them what you need to do it change it. If Chris is on the B.C (which I'm sure he is) he will probably have to sign something.

I would go into the social security office. I doubt his number will be different because when I got married my number didn't change, they just changed my name. Sorry you're going through all this momma😔

Just found this: so you may have to contact someone now and then wait it out for 6 months or whatever and when he hasn't contacted you or tried to see Oakley, then you can do all of that.

@abeals04 in my state if you're not married you don't have to get fathers permission thankfully. Cause he would not want this. But I'm doing it, I'm the only one that takes care of him he should have my last name. It'll make school stuff super hard for me if he doesn't have my last name

@jleightutt even if he does see Oakley (supervised visitation as of this morning) if I'm the primary caregiver shouldn't he have my last name?

I absolutely agree that he should have your last name... Chris is just gunna walk out on both of you and expect to still have the privilege of Oakley having his last name? Don't think so... I'm not 100% sure of the steps though. I would call the social security office or the court house and just explain the situation and see. Thanks girl. @jleightutt but I'm not sure actually. I wanted his middle name to be Landon but Chris hated it. Ha but I was thinking it would be funny for his initials to be OAK since his name is Oakley. My last name is Kasting but I don't know what a middle name with A would be. Maybe he jst won't have a middle name
