My daughter Sophie was born 5 weeks ago with a portwine stain birthmark that covers the upper right part of her face (about about quarter of her face). At 4 days old she saw an eye specialist to be tested for pressure in her eye (first sign of childhood glaucoma) that day everything was fine but she will continue to be monitored as she gets older.
Next week she has a neurologist appointment to be tested for sturge weber syndrome. This syndrome causes developmental delays, epilepsy, and other vary scary issues I'd rather not think about. I'm feeling positive about our upcoming appointment but I just wanted to throw some information out there as I g ad never heard of this birthmark before I had Sophie. a port wine stain forms in utero a bit 2-8 weeks along, if not enough blood is getting to a certain place the vessels will widen to let in more blood causing the red color. a baby can ger a port wine stain anywhere on the body, but the dace is cause for concern because of sturge weber, or Glaucoma. like I mentioned before. I hope that this may help other mother's in the future. please don't be afraid to ask any questions, if you have them 😀😇💗💖
