@amberr the best thing I remember is that the baby will come whether I can deal with it or not and that I have to be okay with just going with it. I highly suspect my need to control things is the root of my anxiety and panic...And there's not much controlling you can do with a baby on the way...You'll do fine, the first time was the easiest for me!

With my first baby, they gave me stadal (not sure if that's how it's spelled), but with my 2nd and 3rd babies, that option wasn't even on the table because of it being a narcotic that would travel to the baby and I was already taking Prozac. I have had generalized anxiety and panic attacks for about 18 years by the way. Creating a music playlist helped to keep me calm, playing on my phone, an oxygen mask, and to be honest, the only thing that made me feel panicky was stuff I could identify but not control...which is crazy because normally I have no clue what sparks an attack. With my first L&D 12 years ago, I went without the epidural...her heart rate was dropping and a c-section was a strong possibility...found out the cord was wrapped around her arm and that was corrected and all was well again. With my 2nd baby 2 years ago, the epidural gave me a full blown panic attack, but I had to, it was an induced labor that lasted 23 hours despite only being 4 pushes. My 3rd baby a year ago came so fast, they barely got the epidural in and he was born. LOL so, to make a long story short, try to play it by ear, but if you freak out, they'll have you covered...freaking out in L&D is a pretty normal thing. Good luck!
