They'll probably do an ultrasound at your first appointment. It's normal to not have an appointment right away

I didn't get an ultrasound until I was 12 weeks along. But each doctor is different.

I didn't get an appointment until 7 weeks. They did an ultrasound then. I think they want you to be far enough along that they can get an accurate fetal heart rate since sometimes if it's too early they have a hard time finding the heart beat. Also they need to be able to get an accurate fetal measurement to give you a due date to go off of. Some doctors will go off of your last menstrual period but you could have conceived earlier or later than you think.
