Awe hun, its good that you are getting a injection:) You can have it more than once hun and still not be immune....I've never had it before which is odd because my younger sister had it twice xx

Yeah I was told u can either be genuinely seronegative which means u have never been in contact, or have had it but still be in the tiny minority where they can never test the antibodies as there so low they are undetectable. But my first titre was 10 years back showed a low titre, meaning I had some previous exposure but unlikely that I have been prior infected. Now my titre shows nothing, no previous exposure and no previous infection. They had it run from my booking bloods which are apparently stored for a period of time. It showed nothing. I was given two options, Wing it that I may be a rare unfortunate type who are immune but it isn't detected or take the risk of a series allergic reaction to the injection. Like I said its not about me it's about the baby and the fact if I have no detectable antibodies then I won't be passing on immunity and if I get it I will give to the baby and in neonates it's really serious.

They check it off your booking bloods, I only found out 10 years back when my midwife called me to say my blood levels were low at booking meaning I wasn't immune. But as they immunoglobulin is very expensive and time consuming they had to double check my booking bloods again before making it up to confirm I am indeed non immune. Apparently u don't need to have been infected with it to be immune. Most people in the uk are now immune she said. It's 1-2 in over 1000 that are pregnant aren't or will get infected while pregnant. Which is why they don't routinely test for it as its so rare to see an expectant mum in my position.

What a position they put you in. Wishing you all the best @suzie80 I'm surprised they couldn't give you a vaccination ASAP? Why wait until Monday?

It's cos it's not a vaccine @saraelisa I can't be vaccinated till I give birth. It's a blood product with antibodies to help me fight it off and prevent me from getting a bad dose of it kind of like a temporary boost. It wears off after 21 days. So they have to actually make the product and it's the weekend. Not good timing. It doesn't guarantee I won't get it but lessens the severity if I do. But can if given before 10 days of exposure help my body fight it off and maybe prevent me developing it. It's quite complex. It also passes temporary antibodies threw the placenta to help prevent the baby being infected too.

Also my local hospital doesn't have the facilities to make it so I have to go to addenbrookes as the virologist there will make it. Even more of a pain. Then transport it to the doctors and get my nurse to give it. All a bit of a faff. @saraelisa

Well I'd like to say I have but I haven't. Her dad was meant to come over and help me this weekend. The very first thing he replies when I explain the process and dangers of my having an allergic reaction is - well when am I gonna sleep! I have to collect it first thing Monday and he's not due to sleep till 3. It's been one thing after another all day and a massive row. Especially after last week he threw his toys out cos of my placenta encapsulation and not having told him. He doesn't bloody live here! He was meant to arrange his family who he's such a control freak I'm not allowed there no. To watch the children while im in labour and he still hasn't bothered. I try to sort that today by asking he ask if there all immune to chicken pox and I get eyes rolled then shut and ignored. So I suggest I pay a childminder and I get my head chewed off she would go to a stranger. So I said ok u do it and I'll employ a doula and he doesn't want a stranger round his newborn! Wtf am I meant to do then. He expects me to give birth alone. I have no family and friends aren't local. So I'm now stuck with a sick toddler to try and drive to addenbrookes after driving to hinchingbrooke first on Monday, go to the gastroenterologist for my appointment at 9.20 drop into day assessment to Collect some info then go to CAMBRIDGE then back to my doctors to have this jab. With an infectious child cos he just sulked off and went home never even told our daughter he was going and never said goodbye! Honestly u would think he was 3 himself! So furious tonight. I've been running round all day haven't even eaten and he just sat legs on my sofa ignoring me!!!! Could ⛏⛏ in the back garden!
