Why is being liked such a big deal?!
Why is being liked such a big deal?!
I had a meeting this morning. We're trying to decide what's the very lowest we can sell petrol for without losing too much. At the end, we came up with a workable figure and concluded the powwow. I'm infamously detached from my store crew. I'm kind to them, but I don't maintain any personal connection. It's just business, and I like business to be pleasant, but at the same time these are coworkers NOT FRIENDS!!! I like them all well enough to remember their kids' birthdays, but I don't really hang out with them. (I have six kids, three stores, and a farm...I don't really hang out much at all!!!)
I'll call her Charlotte. 😧 Charlotte comes up to me and asks if she can ask me something personal.
"Why don't you like us? We're doing teams tonight and you never come."
I just stared at her.
I have a 6 month old strapped to my chest and my hair is still slightly damp from rushing to be here BEFORE everyone else. I'm at work at 6 am to make sure they can have the smoothest day possible. Even tho most franchise owners never show their faces, I'm here. Not via Skype. In person.
...but yeah, keep thinking I hate you because I don't go bowling. Keep thinking your 78-cent raise was a recurring typo. Keep thinking gift cards coincidentally show up around all your special days. 😎 #detachedButLoyal (And yes...I DO like them. In fact I love them. I just have my own little way of maintaining that and still staying professional.)
