Soooo I was thinking. When/ why did birth become such a medical thing? It used to be that you gave birth at home and everything was fine. But now it's like you go to the hospital and they run an IV and they stick a catheter in you. You're hooked up to monitors and not allowed to eat. They will use medicine and tools to help get you dilated and get the baby out. They will cut you from your vagina to your butt without hesitation or even whisk you away and slice open your stomach. Something that was once so natural has turned into a major medical event... and I think that's what scares me the most about labor.

Probably because childbirth was the number one killer of women for so long, they went overboard with medical intervention

most definitely! even though I am a ftm I am waiting until the last minute to head to the hospital. I am even OK with giving birth in the elevator (being dramatic) if that means no medical intervention and no IV. 6 more weeks to go!

Yup @housfullofgrls nail on the head

I'm all about a hospital birth. I don't want all that mess in my house and if something goes wrong o want someone there to take care of what ever has to happen

Well, I'm all about hospitals for the safety reasons...but I'll be waiting until almost thee last min to get to that hospital fuck that !! Lmfaooo!!!!!💖💕💖 orrrr atleast until half the dilation process is over😂👌🏼

@housfullofgrls, very true. I'm hoping my hospital will let me have a little bit more freedom with my birth. All of the medical intervention gives me the feeling that something is "wrong" even when it's not. So hopefully, for my sanity, they will just let my body do what it was made to do 😊

Stand up for yourself. Know your options and what you want to achieve. If you don't trust your doctor to respect your wishes, find a another one. That's why we pay them. They work for us. Not the other way around. 👍👍

@belizeanhoney, I'm probably going to stall heading to the hospital too. 😬 I wish I could give birth in a local birth center but tricare will only let me give birth on the military base.

I was so happy with my hospital. they wanted to break my water but I said no. they asked if I wanted anything to help with dialation, I said no, i had no pain meds nor an epidural. they offered me all the options, and were very nice when I declined. the only thing they did was cut me to get my son out but that was only because the cord was around his neck.

@housfullofgrls, I'm not sure how the on base hospital works for that. I'll have to ask at my 28 week appointment so I can plan. Not sure if my OB will actually be there to deliver my baby or if there's a completely different set of doctors in the labor and delivery wing. Unfortunately tricare won't let me have the option of delivering elsewhere. 😬

@allyk.xmommy, I hope my hospital is good like that 🙌 it'll help me stay calm and focused if I'm not being poked at every hour.

That's why I'm using a practice with midwives! I'll be in a hospital but I get to labor in water, eat whatever I want, and won't be hooked up to anything.

@babybue16, tricare will only cover my birth if I use the hospital they assigned me ): but I'm hoping to get to tour the labor and delivery wing and ask some questions

@christimary0, I was so happy that they were there, I was bleeding a lot. to the point I passed out. if it wasn't for the nurses and doc, I don't know if I would've made it

@christimary0, see if the hospital you're assigned to has any relationships with midwives. If not, maybe consider a doula if you want someone on your side to help avoid any unnecessary interventions that you'd prefer not to have.
