I've seen a lot of chat on here recently about weaning and clearly people have different opinions about what is best. My LG is now 17 weeks/4 months, I am aware they encourage 6months but I think she is ready for something else. Just looking for some people to share experiences? What did you start with? Baby rice? How did you know your little one was ready? Has it worked out for you? Thanks in advance on anything you can share with me xx

I was advised to start Scarlett at 17 weeks due to bad reflux and I have tried her a few times with baby rice and she pushed it out of her mouth everything so I know that she isn't quite ready yet. Plus she is satisfied with her milk, she sleeps through perfectly fine so I'm happy keeping her on just milk for now. It really does depend on your instinct, people keep asking me if I have started her on any food yet and are surprised when I say no, and they tell me to start it as she is 4 months now. Every baby is different :)

I started Dylan about 14 weeks and he was.more than ready, milk just wasn't enough for.him, no matter how much he had it just wasn't enough but now he's satisfied with what he has, do what you think is best for your baby x

my personal view is if baby Is ready then make a start. EVERY child is different so what's good for 1 might not be for another. it's trial and error really. I'm an early weaner because my babies have been ready to be weaned. my mum was a midwife back in the day and she to this day says it's all crap with the guidelines and we should trust our babies and instincts. xx

I've just started Albie two days ago as he was such a hungry baby I know they say '6months' and never before but tbh it's bullshit you go by your baby Albie was never satisfied with just milk so I tried him with it the other day and he's so much more content with feeds now there is always gonna be opinions about what you do with your child but it's your child Albie is 13 weeks coming up and my youngest brother was fed from 6 weeks and he's healthy and no stomach problems xx

I started with baby rice, she was about 13 weeks, bottles just didn't seem to be enough, after about a week on baby rice once a day I started with porridge and then three weeks in started giving purees at tea time as well, now Scarlett has bottle and porridge, sometimes dinner if she's not sleeping and she has tea as well, with bottles in between and majority of the time she sleep though, the cool purees help with her teething as well 😊, and I was told to wean because of her reflux and she's so much better now, still has gaviscon in her bottles but hardly ever sick now xx

I have heard the same about the reflux thing so may be worth asking a midwife or health visitor. Yeh I think some Mums get swept away with the idea of a Weaning before because it's exciting or whatever. As long as it's done with the child's best interests in mind and not ours as their the ones that need to be ready for it.

Yes @daisysmummy I know that is the official line at the moment however most people I know haven't waited. The minimum is 17 weeks and she is passes that. @sara-lou Aria doesn't feed through the night anymore anyway but I do feel she isn't quite satisfied after her bottles. She also has bad reflux and I know sometimes people are advised to wean early for this reason. It's just something I'm thinking of and was looking to see how others have found it. I do agree about not doing it for a better night sleep or just because you are excited to do it though lol xx

I started with baby rice/porridge for a week or so. Then veg... Then fruit. Then after maybe a month I started mixing veg together & fruit etc. As long as you do it slowly & introduce things as a steady pace (because you want to keep an eye out for reactions etc). You can't really go wrong 😊

I've been told weaning early can cause stomach problems xx

Morgan was the opposite & wasn't a hungry baby. Everyone kept asking why I hadn't started weaning when he was 5months & I had to explain because he's perfectly happy on his milk! Lol Max is the opposite & quite hungry. So will be interesting to see when I wean him. I won't be starting just so he sleeps through the night though. It's perfectly normal for babies to still wake for feeds at night. If he's happy & content I shall leave it until he's old enough. Some of the signs are obviously wanting to be fed constantly, not being satisfied after feeding, trying to grab your food (which isn't until their a bit older obviously). I don't believe the sign of watching you eat because Max has been doing that since he was born! 😂
