So I have a question it's not parenting related. If I or my husband have stuff on our credit report that is 1-3 years old. Should I pay it or leave it? And would it help my credit to pay it off?

Paying it off will look good only because your handling your debt but your score might not increase by much

And it also depends what it is ... Some things on your credit report aren't heavy hitting

Start making payment arrangements on whatever it is. It may hurt it a little because it'll be considered "new" but when you continue to pay on it, it'll be good.

@jaxmama it depends. If you are trying to make a large purchase, such as buying a home, sometimes it can actually hurt your score temporarily, depending on exactly what it is. Are you signed up for creditkarma.com? It is actually free & can help guide you on what you should pay off first in order to improve your score.

Okay thanks y'all! My other question was going to be if it would even help my credit because I've heard even credit professionals say to leave it alone. I can honestly afford to just pay it off one by one. Mine has a directv bill from like two years ago where they screwed me over and two credit cards from like 3 years ago where the accounts were closed out about 2 years ago (being 18 and opening up credit card accounts I clearly couldn't handle) lol and my husbands has a Sprint bill from like 4 or 5 years ago and currently an ER bill not even a year ago of like $5,000 and idk if that's on his report or not but I have tried and tried to do payment arrangements and they keep saying they'll only take it in full so I'm like well I don't have that. @mrsrose @irishtwinmomma

@angiek, Yes my husband and I both have credit karma but I just feel like they don't show everything on our credit report. Because I also use annual credit report where you can pull your report for free once a year and that gives you all 3 credit companies! I feel like credit karma only shows half of it but I didn't know you could do that. I will deff check it out! Thanks 😊

@jaxmama, I know when we were buying our house, our loan officer told me not to bother paying a super old Elec bill that showed up on my report that I didn't even know abt (before I had credit karma). He said it would be " admitting fault" & that paying it wouldn't raise my score at all. He actually had me make a few more payments on my student loans to increase my score. I know everyone's situation is different, though. May want to go on nfcc.org website & do a little research. Good luck 👍🏽
