Does a jug of water need to be boiled for powder formula? I read this online..I read to boil it, add the boiling water to the powdered formula, shake the bottles up and put them in the fridge. Does anyone do this? Is it necessary? I am going to officially start supplementing the baby with formula because even though he is BF 4-6x a day, and eats 3 meals as well, he has only gained 6 ounces in the past 2 weeks and is only in the 2nd percentile for weight. I need to do whats best for him.and I know I am doing all I can with my body, but he needs more calories ..My breast milk is probably like the equivalent of skim for him. So, I will feed him both if I can get him to take bottles. He hates bottles. 😧

my son hasn't gained almost any weight in about 3 months. he is in the 2nd percentile too I believe.

@mrs.mccormick, Before Lainey was switched to RTF, I just bought bottled water and made her a bottle with that. No boiling needed.

We feed formula occasionally. I boil a gallon of water (only needs to hard boil for 1 min) then I let it cool down. I put it in an Arizona tea bottle and put it in the fridge. Then I use it to make bottle as I need and warm from there.

I use Nursery water but I don't boil it, I warm it occasionally bc she likes it either way. I don't find it necessary.

I was scared by the Enfamil scare (of them not preparing the bottle correctly) I started boiling the water and adding the formula. I read it's not good to put powder in with boiling water as it kills some nutrients some how. I buy the nursery water but don't boil it any longer. I felt like no matter how much I tried to do it correctly I was still doing something wrong. They basically want you to boil a bottle for 2 minutes, cool it then feed it. Like what screaming hungry child is going to wait for that? Lol I buy the RTF now. I know the nursery water says to put in fridge once opened (I didnt) and use within 7 days (that I did. lol) It's all confusing. I'd say if you aren't going to use much and can afford it RTF is the way to go.

as long as you don't have well water your fine...when i formula fed my my first son i I boiled water maybe till he was 4 months ,to me its not necessary

I also buy nursery water, no need to boil that one.
