my baby won't latch onto the left breast. only the right. anyone else have a similar issue?
@ramenmami, I had the same issue with my little guy. I used a Medela nipple shield in the hospital. Around 4 weeks old, I started transitioning him away from by just slipping it off my breast when he took a natural pause. He also favored my right breast over my left. I was nursing in a football hold on the right and then would slide him over to my left in cross cradle hold. The nipple shield should help with a strong letdown too, as your milk will collect in the shield instead of shooting straight into baby's mouth.
Your letdown may be a little too strong on that side. do you nurse with both sides at one session or do you switch every other boob?
@ramenmami, That is a really good idea! I had the same problem just the opposite one! With my first baby my daughter ! I just keep on trying & trying! I also squeeze a little milk from my right booby into her mouth while I very likely rubbed her jew! Worked well for me she finally got it!
I'm not sure. got it in the hospital. but like @mami2d said try new holds. we found the football hold on the right worked while side nursing on the left
she drinks perfectly from the right side. the moment on the left she spits it out. :( but I keep trying. probably gonna squeeze in an appointment tomorrow with a lactation consultant
@showersoverflowers, that seemed to be the issue exactly. Thanks!
