while getting induced I didn't feel any pain until my doctor broke the water.. the pain was excruciating but I was only 2cm dilated (this is when I took epidural).. it differs from each person.. you can take epidural at any time when your labor gets more painful...

When you can't take it anymore, otherwise your body might metabolize it too fast and it won't be in affect when you are ready to push
