Anyone have luck with mothers milk tea? How much and how long did it take to help build your supply?
Yes, even if you don't get anything keep pumping. It's the complete emptying of the breast that triggers the breast to make more. You're body will only make as much as you take out of it. Your supply is supposed to naturally mimic the baby's appetite, but with pumping you can trick it into making more then you need.@shayleighnikole, Just pump as long as you can without hurting the nipple.
@gyngee, if I pump and don't get more than a half ounce out, should I keep pumping ? Is it just the sucking of the breast or the actual let down of milk that triggers making more? I wonder if I just let in keep sucking on my breast if it will help..
The tea worked really well for me. Only took a few hours for me to notice the effects. I use it during growth spurts and pumping sessions. I should use it again to rebuild my stash since my son ate through my freezer stash in a day of me being in the hospital.
Yeah, then definitely try the tea and if that doesn't work i'd recommend the fenugreek. Just remember to empty both breasts fully every feeding and pump every chance you get. The more demand, the more the supply. Good luck!@shayleighnikole
@gyngee she hasn't been pooping much and is constantly fussing and sucking on finger... Plus I can kinda feel when they are full and they just haven't felt that way lately... Plus I'm trying to start a freezer stash for when I go back to work so I wanna see an increase and get that going ...
How do you know your supply is low? Is the baby not gaining weight properly or still acting hungry after feedings? If your measuring on just how much you're pumping that's not a good indicator of supply. The baby is much more efficient at removing milk then the pump, if the baby isn't telling you there's a problem you could be fine.
I never tried the tea, but I tried the fenugreek pills. They really boosted my supply and made me smell like syrup lol, but the effects aren't forever. Eventually you need to take more to get the same effect and if you stop your supply drops to normal. If you use it while pumping every chance you get, it should help. Just make sure to eat right and stay hydrated. Not getting enough calories or fluids will tank your supply. @shayleighnikole
Even after baby has eaten, if you can pump 10-15 minutes each side it should really help.
