Why do people decide that their baby is going to be vegetarian? I like my child tasting all the different meats and getting all the good nutrients. I couldn't imagine forcing my beliefs on my son, surely it's up to him when he gets older

I'm veggie and unsure... I think maybe when weaning I'll skip meat because personally to me, it has no nutritional value and it's just fat and greese 😂 when she's older, she can then decide if she wants to try meat or not 😊

What about fish? @daisysmummy

I don't eat fish either 😊 look, I really don't want an argument or a debate... I'm just expressing my opinion 😊 there is no wrong or right answer, it's a matter of opinion and what we think is best for our babies xxx

I'm not arguing lol I'm just trying to find out why. I do understand with meat but fish is good for omega 3 & 6. Do you worry that by doing this your child will be missing out on certain tastes and textures that might make her dislike certain foods not knowing that she might really like them ? Xxx

I've thought about it a lot! And so has my partner (he eats meat but wants to become veggie) another reason is the fact that I've been veggie for such a long time now and I wouldn't know how to cook meat as I become veggie as a child, therefore I wouldn't feel confident enough to cook it for my daughter! I'd be too paranoid i would give her food poisoning haha! I have very strong views when it comes to eating meat and I personally wouldn't feel comfortable feeding it to my daughter xxx

@daisysmummy, @tremzini my cousin made her baby a vegetarian because she was and the poor wee babe ended up severely underweight. Developing babies need fat, protein and iron. Yeah you can get that from other foods but not to the same quality and quantity. She tried to give her baby quorn but according to the NHS you're not supposed to give babies quorn or any meat substitute untill they are 9 months old. It doesn't have many calories and babies need calories and fat. It is also high in fibre which can cause excess wind for babies. All in all, not reccomended .. But each to their own xx

@tremzini, @kmcf2302 I never thought about it like that... I'm really stuck on what to do 😂 it's not the fact that I want to make her veggie, it's just that I don't really feel comfortable feeding her meat as my views are so strong but then I obviously don't want her being underweight or unhealthy :/

My friend is a vegetarian but she gave her baby meat and also teaches her about why she's vegetarian. At 4years old her little girl still chooses to eat meat as she enjoys it and my friend is ok with that and supports her whilst still not eating meat herself.

@daisysmummy, no one can tell you how to raise your child, it's obviously up to you and you know best :) but if you do decide to raise her as a veggie it would be beneficial to get advise from your GP to make sure she's getting the right amount of each food group one way or another xx

@natzie86, @kmcf2302 what if I was to just give her stuff like chicken an fish? Would that suffice? xx

It is a tough one for some people and I can see certain peoples points. Me myself as much as I believed in something I'd want my son to decide wether or not he would like to join me in them beliefs xxx

I would also really worry about if I was cooking it correctly or not xx

@natzie86, that's nice how she's done that. It's nice that the little girl can enjoy meat and then choose to decide if she wants to change when she's older. There is a lot of reasons why people choose not to eat meat as for children they just wanna be princesses and superheroes for the time being lol so it's best for them to not have to think about these things till they're older xxx
Natalie·
@daisysmummy, all I eat really is chicken and fish and sometimes beef if I go to a carvery. You have to do what you feel is right for your baby. My dad is vegan and he said the step from meat eating to veggie was harder than going from veggie to vegan
Natalie·
Oh no sorry I eat mince beef. Lol bloody baby brain 😂

@daisysmummy, your GP or health visitor would be able to advice you on these things I guess. If you do decide to cook meat buy a meat temperature checker thing lol. I do have a habit of making my boys chicken a tad dry just to be sure 😂 xxx

I'm a vegetarian, my son has always been offered meat since we first weaned him but he quite often chooses to eat my food instead. I think it might just be because it's easier for him to chew. I have a perfectly balanced diet, plenty of protein from beans and pulses, dairy, and eggs as well as some soy alternatives. I cook meat for my partner so we just let our son pick either my partner's food or my food to eat in the evening. I find that as long as their diet is balanced, meat isn't necessary, but I also wouldn't force my son to eat veggie food if he didn't want to. He is always given a choice xx
