Whats with doctors and wanting to discourage women from having pain med free childbirth. I saw a different doctor and asked him about why they want to induce me at 37 weeks and IF i do get induced if I still have the option to do it without pain medication. He just looked at me and gave me a cocky smile and said "After we start pitocin you wont be saying you dont want an epidural". Made me so mad...Im NOT getting an epidural unless i need a C-section. I refuse to be stuck lying in a bed with very little mobility when im in labor. I want to be able to walk and rock and sway with my partner if i damn well please. Now the hospital im delivering at is fine with me wanting to be up and moving through labor. But both of these doctors basically laughed and told me theres no way i can handle going pain med free. Seems to only be the male doctors too! Every woman ive talked to says "it will be harder because of the pitocin but you can do it of you set your mind to it" This is why i wanted a female OB in the first place but theres no high rick women OBGYNs that take my insurance near me...Im so discouraged and not at all looking forward to giving birth now...

Theyd be inducing for medical reasons. we cant get my gestational diabetes under control, the baby is measuring behind and theyre afraid its a problem with the placenta, and ive been having high blood pressure problems.@6.5.16,

I was on pitocin for 27 hours with no pain killer/epidural whatsoever. I ended up getting a c-section so I had to have a spinal block for that, but you definitely can go without pain killers even with pitocin. I was talking and sleeping even on pitocin. The nurse that started my pitocin drip swore I was going to ask for an epidural, she came back after my son was born and I made sure she knew that she was wrong

well when you're induced you can't really be mobile much anyways bc you're hooked up to the monitor the whole time. I was in so much pain from the pitocin I couldn't even move it just is so unbearable.

@michelle2220, The hospital im going to deliver at has mobile monitors so that women who want to get up can do it

I was induced and never really felt a contraction at all! I could watch my belly raise and fall with them but didn't hardly feel them. I only got an epidural in the end to help my body relax enough in order to dilate since I absolutely did NOT want a c-section. I was in labor from 9:30am - 7:36pm the next day and as soon as I got the epidural I dilated in less than half hour. Depending in how things go, everyone is different, I'd say majority of the time you can go pain med free! Good Luck!
