it's to check for gestational diabetes .. they make u drink this really sweet juice then wait a hour to take blood .. if u fail the one hour test they have u do the 3 hour test .. if u fail that one u have gestational diabetes and they will have u basically on a strict diet (I never failed so I can't tell u much on that)
@memegrace22, you doctor usually gives it to you at 28 weeks. It's really not that bad and it's important to know if you have gestational diabetes because it can lead to many problems for mom and baby
Some doctors don't let their patient refuse because gestational diabetes can lead to very bad problems for mom and baby. And it's not worth the potential issues to deny the test

they recommend it. you can tell them no but most doctors will tell you to do it.
