How old does everyone think they should stop breastfeeding your child? I see mums breastfeeding…

I was eating in a pub with my OH. A family next to us, with a girl around 4-5 and an older brother they both ordered of the menu sat and started eating their food, all of a sudden the girl latched onto her mum and stopped eating her meal!!? very strange i do think if they are eating a childs meal let them, stop the breast milk! found it very odd but each to their own. personally I would stop when they have a full mouth of teeth/ when they start to appear!

I don't want to seem rude but I find it sort of unsettling seeing older children of around 4-5 and even older still breastfeeding and gripping the mothers nipples. Some say it's a comfort thing but so is a dummy and I had my dummy taken away from me when I was 3. Beast milk is only beneficial for the first 6 months I think, then when they transition onto solid foods it's used mainly as a comforter but the child doesn't need it. Plus I can remember some things from when I was a toddler, the older children will definitely remember it. But I suppose everyone's entitled to their opinion. xx

I don't breastfeed so I guess I shouldn't have an opinion. Saying that breastfeeding has many benefits which exceed 6months @canteloupe24 Even formula is needed until 12months. More & more breastfeeding nutritionists are saying breastfeeding past 1yr until 2 or 3 still has benefits. I don't know if this is true. I guess parents that breastfeed past 1yr are no different than parents that continue to give their children formula stage 1,2 & 3 past 1yr which isn't needed if your child is on a balanced diet. I personally wouldn't want my 3/4 yr old still breastfeeding but then I didn't breastfeed in the 1st place 😂

its just one of those topics where its really each to their own. There are sciences behind feeding over a year. It personally freaks me out when i see children over a certain age still sucking on their mums boobs and saying booobieeee. Of course its only natural. I guess its just the way we see things nowadays @canteloupe24 @sara-lou @tiffany84331 xxx

@abbiegale, my OH and I were sitting in waitrose cafe before doing our shop. This lady and her husband had 2 boys with them one was I'd say 2 years, and the other was I'd say 5 years old. My husband wasn't fussed about her breastfeeding but found it shocking that with the food they ordered, the toddler was being breastfed. I'm really unsure of the benefits so I can't judge, each to their on but it's not something I plan to do, I'll do 6 months most with bottle feeding. Maybe it has a lot of benefits for the mum breastfeeding? I can't wait 5 years for a glass of wine and a cheeky brandy lol X X

I would like to think i could do it for a year but no longer. My sister was breast fed and she seems to be the smartest as in being able to spell properly and all that jazz both me and my brother struggled in school. I know it has lots of benefits but I just can't get my head over the age just seems alittle bit strange in someways. And oh im sure the parents have a sneaky drink here and there haha! You will have to stock up for a couple of days if your having a good drink@saraelisa xxx

@abbiegale, 😂 Oh I can't wait I'm not a drinker but I've missed a quick brandy or a glass of wine I'm afraid to drink in pregnancy I'm TT not even a smoker. So it would be nice to have a quick tipple. Lol. I'll stock up 👍🏻👍🏻 xx

Oh i know how you feel their I didn't even like drinking until right before i got pregnant. When you can't have something it makes you want it more😂. Getting some special breastfeeding freezer bags will be stocked up fo sho. Well i hope I will be anyway @saraelisa xxx
