Ladies need some advice. We had to move in with my partner's parents in order to save a bit of money…

Do you feel confident enough to talk to her about it? @missy84 If she's adamant she's not going to stop or go outside could you ask if she'd compromise & stick to one room in the house to smoke. We lived with my parents for the 1st 11months when my son was born & my Dad is a smoker. He was very good the 1st few months & went outside. As Morgan got older I noticed he came inside but he always went in the dining room. Which we rarely went in. I didn't feel I could ask him to stop it being his house & they were letting us live there. But I was happy enough that he wasn't smoking directly near Morgan.

@sara-lou, I honestly don't. Although her daughter has mentioned to her but she just brushed it off saying it was her house. She only smokes in the living room which is the main room in the house n where I would spend most of my time😕.

I feel like I can't really say anything as it's not my house. She used to smoke while having her grandson in her lap so I don't think this will be any different. I'm just super anxious about it n don't know what to do x

It's hard. Some people have said my Dad was awful for not giving up or not going outside. But he did compromise & only smoke in one room where we didn't really spend much time. We had no other option to live there as my husband had been made redundant so I was thankful that he tried to change his habit of over 40yrs! Could your oh try & speak with her? Make out your so thankful she's letting you stay at hers but for your sons health would she mind smoking in another room just for a while? She may listen to her son a bit more...

I wouldnt like to be in a smoking house with the baby hun as me and my partner do not smoke.if she would only smoke in one room that would be OK I would try talking to her but I wouldn't let her go by my baby with her smoking it be a big no no but that's my opinion hun xx

@sara-lou, he has spoken to her but like his sister he didn't get anywhere with it.

I'm hoping once baby is here she changes her habit but at the moment she smokes so much with me in the room,I have to leave coz I get coughing fits. She doesn't bat an eyelid. I just have to think this is only temporary but just concerned for my baby's health.

@sammy we both don't smoke either so coming from a smoke free house to hear has been a huge shock as we both constantly coughing which is not nice.

I'm going to try talking to her again but everybody has tried so I'm not holding my breath. I already said that if she starts smoking when baby is in the room that I will just leave n go upstairs,I refuse to stay in the same room while she's smoking n I will definitely not leave baby with her alone because I know she would just smoke while looking after her. xx

@missy84, ITS very hard isn't it its nice she taken you both up and it is her house and she should be able to do what she wants but maybe she might listen and only smoke in a couple of rooms as it's not good for the baby hun xx

i wouldnt be able to live there. baby will be riddled with asthma. id have ur oh have a word so not directly from u x

She might not wanna stop but I can assure u either the midwife or Hv will say something when they visit post natally.

They will also tell her it's not just the smoke u can see but the smoke u can't plus the smoke gets into everything u can't see and that can affect baby. I'd have a word and if not maybe speak to your midwife and see if they can have a chat too

I think when the hv comes out to meet you, she may mention it ifs that bad cos it's a risk to baby, so maybe try and talk to her before that as they may recommend you find somewhere else x

@suzie80, @mummyto1soon2be2 we have tried talking to her but she is not budging. Just annoys me that this is her grandaughters health she's putting at risk but she just doesn't care.

We have nowhere else to go so unfortunately it's just something I'm going to have to fight with. I hope the midwife or hv tell her off because clearly she's not listening to anyone 😧 x
