So I'm not quite understanding this whole breast feeding/ pumping thing. At what point do you pump and for what reasons? Is there a reason you would breast feed and not need to pump? FTM here and my mother didn't breast feed 😁 I'm planning on breast feeding though so I need to figure this out ahead of time 😂

Pumping is for if baby can't latch, you don't want to breastfeed but give breastmilk, you need a stash for going back to work and probably a couple other reasons I'm forgetting. I only pumped a little bit but it's not necessary. I'm a stay at home mom so I breastfeed my daughter and don't pump.

You can pump to have bottles for when you go back to work, or go out or whenever. You don't have to pump.

@santistevanmommie, I'm going to be a stay at home mom as well, would you say I should still invest in a breast pump?

Maybe just a hand pump unless you want to build a stash. I only pumped to make a small stash once and if I got engorged and my daughter didn't want to nurse

I would because sometimes you need a break and you can pump and let someone else feed or just in case of engorgement. I don't really pump but here in there for just in case

With my first I exclusively breast fed and never pumped. With my second I breast fed and pumped because my supply was too large for her appetite. And then my supply synced with her and I stopped pumping. But if you want to go back to work I suggest feeding and pumping and putting what you pump into a freezer to store for when you go back. Baby will go through your stash fast.

I breast fed and pumped when my boobs were just wayyyyyy full so I could relieve some of the pain lol

All of the above^^^^ I just wanted to add that most insurances will cover a breast pump at no cost to you, so if yours does it could be good to get one just in case even if you don't necessarily plan on pumping.
