i think they're just telling you what their docs have told them.37weeks WAS considered fullterm when i had my kids over 5years ago. this was all new info for me this time around as well. further studies showed babies still develop a lot in 2-3weeks. this info was given to me by both my OB and high risk OB. so now 37 is early term and 39 is full term. if he's okaying you to self induce there is probably a reason why.

Yeah, a lot of doctors are saying 39 weeks is full term. Not 37. At least that's what my doctor told me.

my hospital told me 37 weeks is full term when I went Friday when my contractions were 5 min apart so the stopped the contractions to try and get me a few more days .I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow

my doctor says 37 weeks is full term but also won't induce at all or schedule c-sections until 39 weeks at the least. I personally had both my kids at 37 weeks both perfectly healthy good weights and all but I try and tried keeping them in longer. but since I went into labor on my own both times he didn't stop it. I guess it depends on your health and baby's health

I honestly think, it depends on which ob practices your doctor is following. Every doctor is different. Some wont membrane sweep, some will, some will induce at 39, some make u wait until 40+1, some make u wait until 41 weeks. Some drs. give u the ok to self induce at 37, some its 38, some don't like it at all. My niece was born at 37 by scheduled csection and weighted 7,3 my son by induction at 40 +3 at 7,2. Neither of them had any issues or NICU even tho niecey was 3 weeks early. Personally if you dont like the response you get from people just don't put certain things out there. Its only upsetting you and then you feel the need to explain yourself, and for what. Not worth it if you ask me.

@mommabee37, my doctor says the same. She wont stop the labor at 36 weeks, says full term is 37, will membrane sweep at 38, and medically induce at mothers preference at 39. I made her go over all of it with me bc my last midwife I had to beg and plead in tears to induce me, at 40, and she said I had to be past my due date.

the ACOG did change it from 37 to 39 but not all drs go by that.

i could careless about the change.. to me 37 weeks will always be full term! Just because they changed it in no way changes how baby is developed at that stage.. All babies grow differently.. but to me its So stupid to change it to 39.. might as well say 40..

this time around I'll be 40+ by the time my son comes.

my doc did okay for me to try to self induce at 37, but was still told 39 was full term.

I'd rather my son be okay so I quit trying to self induce it just made it harder on me and my body.

plus most of it won't help induce lol

I stopped trying I think only change is my cervix is soft now
