You finally got that positive pregnancy test! Both you and your partner are excited, but then you…

You finally got that positive pregnancy test! Both you and your partner are excited, but then you start to hate him. Blame it on the hormones and the normal stress of life, but how are you going to survive 40 weeks with this kind of relationship?💑

We asked moms in the mom.life community for advice on how not to kill your SO during pregnancy, and here are 18 awesome tips to help save you during your pregnancy.❤️

➡️ 1. Don’t forget about your husband

“Yes it is all about you, yes, you have a person in your womb who will exit in the most spectacular of fashions, but this is a change for him too! Make sure when the family and doulas are fawning over you, that someone out there is taking care of him! Maybe it can be you, but if you had a hard pregnancy, hard labor/delivery, c-section, multiples, etc., maybe physically you can't do it all. Hire your brother to take care of him 😝”

“Remember to include your partner in the pregnancy, so they don't feel left out!”

➡️ 2. Realize the little spats are just that

“We often found ourselves arguing over nonsense stuff. So we got it out of our system, took a break apart & then apologized & came back together. Sometimes there were tears & sometimes we vented to our besties but just know that it'll pass.”

“You will fight and argue. Been there done that. Just know that it will get better. It may take some time (and some broken dishes- if you are like me) but being assholes to each other will happen, believe me. Let's not sugar coat this ladies, you will fight, you will make up. Remember, tomorrow is a new day.”

➡️ 3. Pray!

“Prayer. We worked hard on our relationship with Jesus. I had to fix mine as a whole. It took until just the other day to have my spirit fixed so that I can be a better wife.”

➡️ 4. Blame the hormones

“Apologize beforehand, and let him know that you might burst at any moment for no reason sometimes, let him know that it's your hormones. so that way when you do go off, he can let you off the hook, because he'll know it's your hormones.”

➡️ 5. Communicate and listen

“My husband and I have learned that the best thing to do for us right now is set aside time to just communicate with each other. To just sit and listen to how the other is feeling every once in a while. When we hit a rough spot a few weeks ago, we would do this every day. Now we do it maybe once a week because we're understanding each other so much better. We can talk about our fears with the new baby, our daily stresses, what we feel we need from the other, everything!”

“Don't be afraid to tell them I can't do a certain thing. No one can read minds speak up if you need help don't think they automatically know what you need and want from them.”

➡️ 6. Stop and take a deep breath

“I often had to pump my own brakes when I was pregnant and ask myself a few questions: (1) Would I argue about this if I wasn't pregnant? (2) Will arguing about this actually fix anything? (3) Can I avoid a stupid argument by taking a nap? (4) How can I have a conversation about what's bothering me instead of having an argument?”

“Relax take a moment to think if what you're about to argue about is worth the stress, are you guys going to make up after anyways? After you argue are you going to regret the things you said? Always think before you do.”

➡️ 7. Apologize often

“I'm 30 weeks and I have to tell you, I start fights over some petty shit. I've come to learn that I sometimes really can't tell if I'm being hormonal, until it's too late. I've hurt hubby's feelings more being pregnant than any other time in our relationship. What I do is once I realize I'm being a brat (or once he finally tells me I'm being a brat or unfair) I just stop and say I'm sorry, I'm being ridiculous. and then we, you guessed it! Talk! Communication is absolutely key!”

“Remind yourself as often as you can that, this anger/sadness/despair/aggravation is temporary. If you are wrong, apologize once you've cooled down. Lastly, educate your partner about pregnancy hormones, show them the effects on other people's lives and assure them that....THIS TOO, SHALL PASS lol.”

➡️ 8. Be patient

“Be patient. He has no clue how you're feeling only what you tell him is wrong so they may seem insensitive, but they really hate seeing us in pain and have absolutely nothing they can do about it.”

➡️ 9. Hug it out

“If I get emotional and he can tell, no matter what we are arguing about, my wonderful man grabs hold of me and holds me close and kissing me and tells me he loves me. We snuggle while talking it out. Then we watch a show together or grab a bite to eat and are happy as can be. He gets that sometimes I just need to be emotional and be held. 💗💗”

➡️ 10. Stop the drama

“Don't be overly dramatic and self-involved… We often forget that our significant other is going through an emotional roller coaster too. Talk to one another and share feelings, thoughts and fears. Communication is everything! And lastly remember to not take everything so seriously. Remember to breathe and smile. Everything is going to be okay.”

➡️ 11. Have some me-time

“Sometimes is healthier to be alone... It’s okay... even 5 minutes or forever.”

“Y'all may need a time out. Pick one day a week when y'all both go and do your own thing by yourself or with friends... Go shopping, spa day, golfing, beach time.”

➡️ 12. Be honest

“I'm very lucky my SO is super patient and understanding. I would be honest with him and tell him when I was irritable and in a bad mood. That way he knew to give me some space and not take everything I said straight to heart.”

➡️ 13. Don’t forget to laugh

“Don't forget to talk and to laugh!”

➡️ 14. Appreciate him

“Remember men need to be babied and loved too, remind him you appreciate him and that you're here for him.”

“Continue to appreciate each other, and always come from a place of understanding. If he makes an insensitive joke, he definitely didn't mean it to offend. You may be stressed but so is he. He doesn't know what you're going through, but you also don't know what he is going through. When you try to understand each other and appreciate each other, you'll both feel good about each other and yourselves.”

➡️ 15. Let him help you!

“Clear the air of bothersome things but be respectful and mature about it. If you're stubborn like I was, especially during pregnancy, don't be. Let your man help when he can, you can't always be superwoman but don't take advantage of his generosity either, rather, take advantage of the few months you have before life after baby completely changes. Spend as much time as you both can with one another! Do things together, go out and have fun or stay in and watch a few comedies or action flicks. NO CHICK FLICKS. Unless he's into that, I wouldn't recommend it, haha. When you feel yourself get flustered and irritated, ask yourself if it's really something to be upset over, if so, take deep breathes and eat a cookie. I mean, you're pregnant after all. :)”

➡️ 16. Think about the environment you’re creating

“We are not perfect, but we do not argue. It’s not appropriate for our son. My parents fought physically and verbally. I do not want my son growing up in that environment. so we do not for the sake of my son.”

➡️ 17. Create a support system beyond your SO

“Make sure you have a support system. Some dads could care less about you being pregnant, don't lift a finger to help or ask about you, just make you feel down, so having someone who is there for you to pick you up is key! Make sure you know your beautiful even if he tells you or makes you feel you’re not!”

“Don't let your spouse do everything for you. It will feel good to be lazy, but by the time baby comes they'll be so worn out that they won't want to help. Just keep your responsibilities the same (obviously tweak them if you're actually unable). Just be helpful! It's stressful for them as well.”

➡️ 18. Don’t take it out on him!

“Remember that the hormones are no excuse to be hateful! Pregnancy is temporary but the damage to your relationship can last forever. And take heart. Document these crazy moments because you'll look back and laugh.”
