Trying to conceive is stressful on couples. Sometimes you’re so focused on fertility that you lose sight on your relationship with your partner and the love you have for each other. Sex becomes a chore, and each negative pregnant test deflates your baby dreams.👶🏽

We asked moms in the mom.life app how their husbands, boyfriends or SOs have helped with the roller coaster of emotions and the difficulties when trying to get pregnant. Here are six tips to save your relationship while trying to make a baby.❤️

1️⃣ Just support her

“The biggest help I have had is just my partner being there to support me how he can, through the highs and lows. No matter if I am sobbing because I got my period so this month wasn't the month we had so hoped it to be. He held me gently and told me we still have next month.”

2️⃣ Have patience

“Being so patient with me and never getting angry over my stressing even if I took it out on him or my buying clothing for a child we don't know when we will have. It's so nice that for what I try to internalize he always tries to make me express and never judges me one bit.”

3️⃣ Be strong together

“This is not a journey for a weak couple. You both have to be strong together, not separately.”

4️⃣ Understand how the negative results affects both of them

“I think when TTC both partners need to remember each other and how the negative results affect them. When my husband and I were TTC, I was so wrapped up in my own misery with every negative I got that I began to ignore the signs my husband was displaying of his own heartbreak. It takes a strong couple to go down the hard journey of TTC, but if we are careful to mind each other's feelings and fears then it's a beautiful experience no matter how long it takes. My husband stayed by my side long after I had given up TTC after my miscarriage. I was angry and bitter but he reminded me that God made a way once, He could do it again. My husband told me to keep my head up, and pray, not just sit around moping. We talked about adoption as a very real option on becoming a family, but God had other plans for us at the moment :)”

5️⃣ Don’t get frustrated so easily

“They need to be supportive and not get frustrated so easily. Take into account how their wife feels every negative test. When you're trying, it’s very easy to get depressed. That negative eats women alive and when the husbands decide to act like jerks instead of consoling and taking that as a step to move closer and keep trying it makes things much, much worse. I remember having to get test such an a HSG done to make sure my tubes were even patient enough to carry fully developed eggs, took tons of meds just so I wouldn't miscarry my daughter they had to help us conceive. My SO was there every second of the way, the negative test he'd hold me when I'd cry because I couldn't understand how it was so hard to do what I believe a woman is built to do. It made getting that positive test so much more special.”

6️⃣ Don't forget the love between you as a couple

“Your S/O or husband should always be by your side throughout your pregnancy and never leave your side no matter how hard times are or how much you fight. It just shows you how much of a real man he is and shows his love to you... A man who loves you loves his kids and family and will be there before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after birth. That's definitely the best feeling knowing that the person who created a life with you is there for you and the baby/children no matter what happens between you both honestly... That's the reason why I'm married and in love ❤”
