It hurts like hell! What it does is gives you artificial contractions. They can sure help but it made me dilate from a 5 to 10 in less than an hour. The contractions were right on top of each other with around 20-30 seconds in between until I pushed my baby out :p I didn't need it but I didn't know better at the time. @mommy2dreux
