I got the toy where they lay on their back and they can reach up and play with different parts of it. It's called Bright Starts activity gym. I think it is the most appropriate toy for babies since they're not required to pick anything up or be standing or sitting up to play with it.

8 months and up. Thats when i noticed my son really understand what it was and he learned "how it worked"
