Advice to moms worried about healing from vaginal delivery! So I had a second degree year along with a hematoma that ruptured open during the delivery and genital warts so I have a little bit going on down there at the moment. I am a week post delivery and I am still very sore but I wanted to give some people advice that has helped me so far!

1. Ask for ice packs and dermoplast: There will be swelling and ice will help with that and the dermoplast kind of numbs the area and helps it to feel better so you can't feel as much pain

2. Take advantage of the mesh panties and pads the hospital gives you. They may look weird and the pads are huge but I found them to be extremely comfortable. I'm currently still wearing the mesh panties from the hospital.

3. Don't be afraid to take the pain meds offered to you. My nurses would give me a 600 mg ibuprofen every 6 hours as well as oxycodine if I needed it. Take it. They will make sure you are not taking too much so take as much as they will give you. Also if they offer a stool softener take it. If they don't, ask for it. Trust me it will be your saving grace later.

4. Take as much stuff from the hospital as they have given you. Pads/mesh panties/ dermoplast/ ice packs/ sitz baths/ prescriptions for more pain meds. Take it all and use it at home. You will thank yourself later.

5. Get yourself a heating pad. The heating helps with the healing process as well and it just feels nice so get yourself one and use it!

6. Dermoplast dermoplast dermoplast. Buy it!!! Stock pile the damn thing. It is amazing and really helps with the pain. So buy lots of it you won't regret it.

I know I was terrified at the whole healing process but it really hasn't been as bad as I had imagined. You obviously have another life now to take care so taking care of yourself is a task however don't over do it. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Make sure you take care of yourself. It will be beneficial to not only you but your baby as well if you focus on healing yourself!
