I am so sick of people telling mom's if they drink they have to pump and dump. NO YOU DO NOT. that's a waste of time and milk. depending on how many drinks there is a time you just have to wait. sober enough to drive is sober enough to nurse. BTW alcohol can decrease milk supply so be careful with that.

@vella89, This is what I was also told by a lactation consultant.

@vella89, @karnamarie this is coming from Dr's. thank you very much. mine, theirs and a lactation consultant as well as 2 midwives. pumping and dumping is an old wives tale. alcohol metabolizes in your blood at the same rate it does in your milk. but hell I've been breastfeeding a combined amount 20 months.. what do I know? 😂
Nicole Matthews·
I don't drink either way so it doesn't make a damn to me. if people are more comfortable wasting milk and time than fine. not my problem. but don't tell someone they HAVE to when they really don't.

@nicemmcha2015 I breastfed off and on for 3 years, both pediatricians and consultants told me 1 mixed drink (2oz), 1 glass of wine, or 2 beers to wait 1 hour for the alcohol to be processed through the body. I am also the oldest of 7 children. Mother breastfed off and on for 25 years. She was told lots of different things in her years.. You go with common sense. If your tipsy and you are what you eat and drink then... probably shouldn't nurse
Nicole Matthews·
@karnamarie, you're exactly right in all of that. all I was saying is you don't have to pump and dump. you just have to wait until it's out of your system. there are people on here saying oh you must pump and dump because the alcohol stays in the milk regardless. like that milk is forever ruined or something and it's not. it filters out just like it does in your blood. it doesn't stay in it forever is what I was saying. just wait. don't waste milk for no reason. that junk is too hard to make to waste it.
