QUESTION: seeing as I've run into a lot of younger moms to be on here (like ages 18-26), and I know that some of us may still be on our parents insurance plans, are there any mommas who are still on their parent's health insurance plans which cover everything for them with no issue, but because of insurance laws your little one won't be covered since they're not your parents child? If so, what did you ladies do? Or if you ended up getting your child on some sort of state insurance, when did you do all that? I'm 30 weeks now so she'll be here before the open enrollment period; I know the pediatrician I plan to use accepts state insurance plans so that's not an issue since that's what she'll have because her dad's insurance isn't through his employer, and because my job is part time and my 1 year mark there and due date are very close I'm not yet eligible for insurance from my employer and probably will not be until long after she's here, and I don't want to get hit with crazy bills and fees from the hospital or at her appointments that prohibit her from getting the care she needs just because she's not yet insured or something or I'm in the process of getting her insured.

Get Medicaid. Baby will automatically be covered at birth

I had my daughter at 19 I've never been under my parents insurance. I've always applied for state insurance for my daughter and I and during my entire pregnancy. You should apply for state insurance that way she's covered.

@rainbow0601, okay! I'll definitely do that then, that never even crossed my mind because when I was a baby my mom had received Medicaid for herself and me because she wasn't working due to a health issue she was having and she and I were the only two in the house since my father traveled for work and was in the service, however they cut her and I both off due to us being on my father's insurance plan and they claimed that we couldn't have it while being covered by my father's insurance or something along those lines, so I didn't think I'd qualify since I already have coverage.

Yes get baby on Medicaid and any bills you have to pay for during the whole waiting process or whatever you can submit to them for reimbursement once she's approved. 😊 Usually they discuss or help you with that at the hospital before you're discharged.

@babynessa, I'm definitely going to look into that, I have coverage for myself for another 5 years under my dad's insurance because the plan he has covers me until I'm 26, but when I was a baby although I was covered by my dad my mom had state insurance for herself and me since my dad traveled for work and she wasn't working due to some health stuff and although they gave it to her they turned around and cut her and I off since we were covered by my dad, so I assumed that they wouldn't give it to me since I have coverage already; unless things have changed (which i hope in close to 21 years they would lol) I guess if anything they'll cut me off after she's born but keep her on.

I'm not on my parents and I'm 24. I'm on medicaid til after I have the baby. my baby will continue to have it after. since 18 I've always had my own insurance through jobs. but I would try medicaid for your child

Since you already have insurance I would simply apply the baby only for Mediciad I wouldn't take the risk of losing it for both you by applying for it for yourself.

I will be using state until I have to get off my parents plan. only because I lost my job to pay for it. but it won't be long maybe like a few months to a year.

I carried my whole pregnancy through my moms insurance and she was able to add him on under her job as a "foster child" all she had to do was fill out a form. He got his circumcision before he had insurance so they just back dated it and it was covered

And you have to wait until after the child is born in order for your parent to put the right birth date on the document, thats just how my mom did it . But all companies aren't the same
