Labor story!
So I was scheduled to be induced July 11th when I was 41+3. Me and my boyfriend go in at 7 a.m., got check in within minutes, and they had me started on pitocin by 8. Before starting the pitocin, they had me and baby hooked up to the monitors and I was already having regular contractions 2-3 minutes apart, lasting about a minute each, but no pain and I was still only 2cm, 50% effaced, -3 station, and cervix was still high which is why they proceeded with the pitocin. The doctor came in around 4 and checked me again and nothing had changed, so she asked me if she could break my water which shocked me since baby was still high up. I said no and she said if I hadn't had a baby by this time tomorrow then I would be having a c-section. That doctor left at 7 and when I got a new doctor, I told her what the previous doctor had said and she said "Oh absolutely not, we don't talk about that. You won't be seeing that doctor anymore." I finished that dose of pitocin and nothing had changed still, so they let that get out of my system and then they started me on cytotec which I got one dose of every 4 hours, so by the time I finish that, it is 5 a.m. July 12th. Get checked again, the only thing that has changed is I'm 3cm instead of 2. They start me back on pitocin and later that night my contractions started to become painful. They checked me and yet again, no changes, but I told them I wanted to try IV pain meds before I got the epidural, so they gave me stadol which literally lasted an hour and didn't really help with the pain, it just made me really happy and I was acting like an idiot 😂 I waited a little while longer and asked for the epidural. It didn't hurt to get put in, but the guy told me I was the most difficult one he did so far that night because I couldn't stick my spine out as far as he needed me to (lol whoops). The epidural didn't take to my right side at first, so they told me to just keep pressing the button every 15 minutes and see if it worked then, and finally it started to. I reached down to move the catheter cord and realized that I could feel everything in that area which really freaked me out because my entire pregnancy I've read about the ring of fire and I was under the impression that an epidural was supposed to numb that area as well. My boyfriend's mom and my own mom both told me they had epidurals and couldn't feel anything down there, so I was freaking out since I could still feel everything down there, I just wasn't feeling contractions anymore. I was checked again that night and I still wasn't progressing, so the nurse gave me one of those peanut balls and told me to sleep with it between my legs and that should help the baby move down. I can't remember what they gave me in my IV next, but my chest started to feel really tight and painful, so they gave me oxygen. It stopped hurting soon after and I fell asleep with the oxygen mask on. I woke up around 4 a.m. and I was shaking uncontrollably so I called the nurse in to ask what was happening and she said it's normally a sign that you're in active labor, and sure enough, when she checked me I was 5cm and 70% effaced, but still a high cervix. Knowing that my mom was coming, she told me that she wouldn't wake my on up just get because it would probably be another 12 hours before I started pushing. I thought otherwise though, so I texted my mom right away and told her to be there within an hour. My water broke around 5:30-6, and my mom got there around 6:30 and I was checked again and I was 8cm and 80% effaced and finally a low cervix. We were trying to wake my boyfriend's mom up, but her phone was off, so we had to get my sister to drive to their house and get her, she got there around 7:30 a.m. and I felt the urge to push, so they checked me and I was 100% effaced but only 9 1/2cm so for some reason the doctor told me to wait until I dilated another half a cm 🙄😒 She said it was so my body could labor on its own and move the baby down naturally so I wouldn't be tired when I needed to push. RESISTING THE URGE TO PUSH IS THE WORST PART OF LABOR LADIES. I'm so serious, I was in SO much pain trying to go against what my body was telling me to do. Every contraction was awful at this point, even with the epidural, so I made my mom go get the nurse and tell her that I was going to start pushing now one was or another. She came in there at 7:55 and I started pushing at 8:05. I pushed 2 times and she said she saw brown hair so we all started screaming because my whole pregnancy all of us hoped he would have dark hair instead of my red hair 😂 I pushed 2 more times and she practically yelled at me to stop pushing immediately because she needed to get the doctor, the doctor literally ran in the room, got her gloves on and I pushed one more time and Silas was born at 8:18 a.m on July 13th. They started asking me how old his sibling was and I was like "What? This is my first kid?" And every nurse in the room was shocked. They said they had never seen a FTM only in labor for 4 hours and push for less than 15 minutes WITH NO TEARS. Silas was 8lb14oz and 20 inches long. He had a full head of light brown hair and looks pretty much identical to his dad. He'll be 3 weeks on the 3rd and is completely healthy, and by 1 week postpartum I was already able to hike up 3 flights of stairs every day, and just yesterday I was able to go back to the pool 😊
