So yesterday I had a doctors appt and they checked my glucose through urine. They said if that came out positive then they would draw my blood and make me drink something. Does that sound accurate? I didn't know they can do it through urine

I have never heard of them doing it through your pee. But I have never heard of a woman that didn't have to drink the drink and get their blood draw.

They check your urine for glucose and proteins. If glucose is elevated in the pee, it is elevated in thr blood. The kidney is only able to keep a certain amount of glucose in the body, and if there is too much in the blood it "spills over" into the urine.
They also check protein, which is an indication of high blood pressure (preeclampsia). When the blood pressure is high, it forces proteins through the tiny filters of the kidney (with normal blood pressure, the proteins stay in the blood) and into the urine.
Hope that helps! 😊

@vanessarazo, sure! This is the kind of stuff doctors aren't always the best at explaining.

They will test your pee every time you go in, they usually do the sugar drink/blood test around 28 weeks. But if it comes out positive in the urine before that, they'll send you for testing when they see it. Best of luck!
