Mamas what are your opinions on introducing oatmeal/rice? Pedi says it's needed for iron at 4 months but I was kind of hoping to exclusively breastfeed for 6 months before introducing anything. At the same time, if rice/oatmeal is needed for iron at 4 months I have no problem introducing it.

I give it to my baby at 5 months - he loves it! Rice cereal is all I've introduced though. The WIC office said only breast milk for the first 6 months, but I had to thicken his feeds for a month or so when he was about 3 months old with rice cereal anyway due to his acid reflux - so I had to pump and bottle feed with rice cereal. I think most babies tolerate rice cereal very well. You will hear some mother say, "Its empty carbs", but there ARE a lot of vitamins in rice cereal because it's fortified so there is a health benefit.

Do research on it. It's not needed anymore and actually can cause more issues in the long run. As soon as I found out I stopped

I had to give it to mine at 2 months for reflux and he loves it! And it's caused him no problems

It has no nutritional value! I am still breast feeding and from when my son was 4 months til 6 months old I had to give him a multivitamin with iron. I would ask about that. I have never heard of giving a baby cereal for iron.. I think it's awesome you don't wanna give anything but boobie milk til then!

It causes long term addiction to starches as well as obesity BUT some babies actually need it to gain weight or reflux I would for sure ask about a supplement 😊 whatever you choose momma is best
