They literally just barley touched my butthole with the swab, then went a little bit inside my lips of my vagina and that was it

And checking for dilation is different for everyone. It use to not hurt for me (I've been checked 5+ times) but the latest time I was checked hurt so bad I almost cried

They shove their fingers up there super super far, (like farther then you can even get yours in there) and feel around the inside to see how dilated you are.

Oh okay thanks @bentleysmomma I know when my SO and I were messing around in the bedroom he could get 2 fingers up there. And normally he could only get 1. (TMI I know) I just don't know if that has anything to do with dilation or not.

Well that depends on if he was actually inside your cervix (which isn't reconvened to check yourself because Bacteria and you can break your water) like did he know it was for sure your cervix?

If it was just your vagina that has nothing to do with dilation, they go super far up in your vagina (the cervix is placed funny and hard to find) and feel for your cervix and if they can fit a finger or however many inside your cervix opening then you're dilated

i just had mine done yesterday they never touched my butt only put a swab in my vagina which was weird because it is essentially a q tip this was my third time checking for dilation. the first time was like a two on the pain scale. the second time hurt significantly more i think because he was trying to see if I was more dilated or not. the third time was a different day, yesterday and did not hurt at all. I think it just depends on the doctor. I don't know quite how to describe how they check for effacement i didn't really feel or but I guess I felt a little pressure feeling. I don't know how to describe it but it didn't hurt. it's nothing like the day to day pains we go through.
