You really don't need to pump unless your going to be away from the baby. Breastfeeding will help u get more milk

@krystalee, what if your boobs are engorged and hurting but baby's not hungry? I haven't had my baby yet and I don't know all that much about pumping and breastfeeding. Also what if my husband wants to be able to feed him can I pump and let him use a bottle just for that or will it cause too much nipple confusion?

My Lactation consultant said the mothers should be doing the feedings for at least the first 2 weeks. And to stay away from the bottles until u either go back to work or your leaving the baby with someone. @giananiicole and you should nurse baby about 10-12 a day so you shouldn't be engorged

@krystalee @giananiicole it depends on the baby and the momma. My lactation consultant said to pump if the baby wasn't eating enough to encourage my milk to come in OR after baby eats if I'm engorged on one side. Not all babies nurse often enough for the mommas body. You can pump and dump for the first weeks or pump and freeze. It is good to wait on the bottle feeding at least until you establish a good routine for the first couple of weeks.

@giananiicole they definitely can. My son likes my right side so my left side is a little behind on producing as much milk...which is why I pumped on that side.
