Question time!
Ok, I have no reasonable explanation as to why, but I'm honestly not a fan of binkies. We were given some at the shower and my husband wants to use them when our son is born. What are the pros and cons to them? I feel really dumb posting this too.

Honestly I was against it completely until my son could hold it on his own, but we ended up trying it when he was four weeks and he absolutely loves his paci and won't give it up yet. It is annoying that I always have to put it back in his mouth and he can't really hold it. Which was my only fear about it. But other than that it helps him be calm and he won't go anywhere or sleep without it.

One pro. If your son ends up being colic a paci helps sooth the baby.

pros: it helps prevent sids
cons: they are hookers to try to break from. I've read new reports that say it's best to break the habit at 6 months while their object permanence is still weak and sids risks go down

Some babies don't even like binkies . Maybe you'll get lucky .

Neither of my kids took them and my daughter was colic and hated it

I don't use all for all the above reasons. and in hospital before baby us born I make it known that they can't give it to my baby in nursery either

@mamix3_, That was also one of the main reasons I kept my kids in room with me. When I told the nurse not to give them binkies she said ok then we let them cry. I said bring me my damn babies 😂😂

I used it with my first especially bc she was a nicu baby and had many surgeries it really helped calm her. but at 9 months she just gave it up on her own a day after her last surgery. it was really weird but she just didn't want it. I'm giving this baby a paci for my sanity

it does help sooth them, but in my experience it's just given to them so they don't cry so much. but babies can find other ways to sooth themselves. i don't like them at all and told my hubby that if they try to give our baby one to take it away.

Cons: constantly having to put it back in mouth when he spits it out and or hits with hands and falls out ... He will cry until u retrieve it and throw a fit ... But , I have him swaddled and that helps a lot and pros: it helps him sleep at night and helps prevent sids ... But , if u can and hopefully u can not use one its so much of a crutch mostley .. But , I used it because he wanted to suck on somethjng even after I fed and changed him .

Also it's mostley a easy way to soothe them so they don't cry .. But , in the beginning its hard cuz babies will be crying and u want sleep I tryed not to use one but gave in I bet if I didn't he would of soothed himself because he does suck on his hands sometimes but then gets frustrated and realizes hey this isn't my paci... So he wants it instead .. But like I said if u can just not give it to them and see if he can eventually soothe himself ... It's a hard habit to break

Honestly I didn't wanna use them either but the hospital gave him one after his circumcision to sooth him now he only takes one for 5 minutes why he waits on a bottle when he is upset and when we are driving and I can't change him right then and he's fussy.

jajaja if a nurse dare tell me that I'd wrap my hands around her throat. they become addicted attached to those nasty things. I know I used one until unless 6
