Question ladies
AM I wrong for not letting my oldest (12 y/o) child's father coming to get him amd take him to Disneyland for a late bday gift?
The reason why I'm not is because he periodically comes in and out of his life and when he does come around he always wants to do something extravagant. Meanwhile I'm the enforcer that makes him do his homework, do weekly chores, etc.
Don't get me wrong I spoil the hell out of my son. For his bday this past weekend I rented a 22 foot water slide, invited all of his friends, bought him a $500 tablet (added it to my Verizon account), grilled burgers and hotdogs, it was amazing. Last year we took a trip to St.Thomas ( I work for the airline, so it didn't cost me much). It just frustrates me because I'm the full time parent through good and bad. And he comes in when it's convenient for him being this awesome super dad.

i don't think you're wrong. talk with the father and see if he is willing to do something less spectacular or if he can make it a trip with you too. that way there isn't the "cool mom/ cool dad" thing going on

That's exactly how my sons father is with my 3 year old minus the trips. He thinks he can call when its convenient for him and expect my son to just be all cool.... My son doesn't know who he is because he hasn't ever been there for him.

Not wrong at all. Men just act like they can come and go into their kids lives but you have to deal with the aftermath of it.

@naomiedgd, Trust me when I tell you that I have brought this by him several times. My son is 12 now and starting to see through his bs. Their phone conversations are dry and my son pretty much just ask him for toys, money, etc. Never anything of substance. No life advice, no puberty questions, if anything he ask my husband all of these things. He just doesn't seem to understand and think i am trying to take my son from him. I just feel like it's all or nothing. When my son is old enough to make a decision on what he wants I'll let him but until then I am going to continue to raise him to be the best that I can.

exactly @reaganmommy2015 and this is a week before school starts. So now my son has to leave Disney and come home and start school, do chores, and homework. Now I'm the bad guy

Not wrong at all! My dad was the same with me when I was younger which is why my mom kept me from him till I was able to tell her I wanted to see him. Then she said that was my choice. But he would give me $100 bucks for the year and thought he was dad of the year. I see where your coming from and id be the same way if I was in your boat
