I don't think bandaging up really determines if baby will have his belly button out or in. I figured if I covered it up, with a penny or without I would not allow for the stump to dry and fall off when it needed to.

I didn't do anything with either of my girls. I just let it air dry and didn't get any water on it at all. It fell off in about a week on its own.

Now they do it naturally which is just air dry it but with my two older kids I cleaned it daily with alcohol wipes

I never did with my son. both his pediatrician and nurses said to clean it daily with an alcohol pad to help dry it up. my mother in law wanted me to bandage it up with a penny to prevent baby having an outty belly button.
