I am worried sick. My landlord refuses to fix the mold issue we have in the basement and with the new newborn I am worried that she will become ill from it. My husband and i have lived here for the last 5 years with no issues but I am still worried about her. We don't have the $$$ to move and I am wondering if we should just try to take care of it ourselves. Does anyone else have mold in their home/rental/apartment? This sucks.

Also, if you do decide to try to get it deducted from your rent, I read that if you write a notice to your landlord, you can legally give them an allotted amount of time, and you won't have to pay rent at all until they fix it. But you might double check that.
We had awful mold problems when we lived in Florida, what we did was scrub it all with bleach. It kept it at bay for a little bit anyways. My mom did wind up becoming very ill from it, as there was some she didn't know about right above her bed in the window sill. But that was black mold, which is very dangerous. So you might check into what kind of mold it is and determine the severity of it as well.
to save money until you can move get a dehumidifier. draws out the wetness and keep the mold at bay. If you have flooding issues put in up on a stool or crate so it doesn't get damaged.
pay to have someone come fix it, and she will have to pay you back what you paid. or you can refuse to pay her rent.
Yeah they said they aren't going to try to fix the issue because the basement as always had flooding issues and it's just the nature of the beast. Like really? Im so upset.
Update: landlord is fixing the mold issue. Very happy!!
