I'm curious as to why so many people are getting induced at 38 and 39 weeks. I know it's full term…

Mine is a medical reason :/ I'd rather have her come naturally.

Yeah I have seen many who are being induced for non-medical reasons. Just because they don't want to wait anymore or they want baby born before family leaves town etc. I find it odd that there are so many induction happy doctors out there. I'll be 39 weeks on Thursday and my doctor hasn't even brought induction up, nor has she performed any cervical checks yet either.

@mellysmommy0805, I understand medical reasons. I was gonna have to induced because of diabetes. But I mean more for just the ones that are induced just because.

@klarrissab, my ob told me first appointment either baby comes on his own or I have another c-section.

If baby comes on its own are you trying for VBAC or will you have to get a c-section regardless?

I want to try for vbac. My c-section was no big deal though. I had no pain bad enough for any pain pills at all and was climbing stairs the day I got home. @klarrissab

I'm trying to keep my baby in til 40 weeks! You are right there are a lot of impatient moms and induction happy doctors

I'm getting induced at 39 weeks cause my doctor asked if I wanted too. But my induction date is only 5 days before my due date.

My hubby works in the oil field and they do not give you vacation time. He works 2 weeks on and two weeks off. My due date is October 9th and he will have to go back to work October 9th. He also works about 10 hours away. So I am choosing to be induced to insure that he will be home.

The problem is, you have to be dilated and thinned enough for a successful induction. If not, they can result in c-sections or horribly long long labor. My opinion, a doc who rushes to induce, is just after a c-section. They'll get more money for it lol. I was induced with my first, one day before her due date and it was very unsuccessful and I ended up having a c-section. Doctors fault right there. My second was a repeat one, unfortunately, due to mild gestational diabetes. I was only 2 cm, 4 days after my due date and the day of surgery. I wanted to wait for him to come on his own, but they wouldn't let me go further past my due date 😩 for medical reasons I'm all for it, but for personal convenience, absolutely not. There's a reason your baby didn't come earlier on its own. This is something that shouldn't be rushed. I know there's moms that will say "well I was induced at 37 weeks and my baby was fine". Good for you! But not every baby is ready at 37 weeks. Even its considered "full term", doesn't mean it should be rushed out. One baby could be 8 lbs at 37 weeks, where another may only be 5 lbs with lunges not fully developed. I wish I would've known better with my first, but was absolutely clueless. She was full term, but I'm sure she would've made her grand entrance not too long after her due date. My 2 cents

well it's painful. lol. My doctor won't at 38 weeks. but he will at 39. I'm almost 39 weeks and she's not even close to my cervix and I'm not dialated. not thinned. I want him to strip my membranes so that I don't go way passed my due date but I don't want to be induced early. He said the way it looks is like I can go until 42 weeks haha. I really would rather I not go passed 40 or so

most women dont even know that 37 weeks isnt even considered full term anymore. its 39.

I so agree! I know a lady got induced at 37/38weeks baby had to go to nicu for breathing & not regulating her body temp.
