@mommaofgirls, yes! My pit is really hyper! Kinda like the dog from the movie Marley and Me! He's super active and I barely let him be around the apartment because it's carpeted and he's too wild. I want to keep him but I also want my daughter to be safe and not develop any sickness from all his hair and bringing something from outside.

I have a pit and a German Shepard pit mix. the GSD/Pit is a dang crack head, she's sooooo hyper. but I never once considered getting rid of either of my dogs. both of them are food aggressive, if there's so much as gold fish crumbs on the floor from my toddler they will fight. but I just make sure they're fed twice a day and are let outside to play and get plenty of exercise. I love both of my dogs and would never get rid of them just because I had a baby, dogs are lifetime commitments BUT, I also have the ability to give them a good life. I own my house with a fenced in back yard, my fiance is 6'4" and 200lbs so when they fight it's easy for him to break it up as opposed to when I try and break it up its harder and things get out of hand. neither of my dogs stay in their crate longer than over night and spend all day in our house with us as a family. from personal experience, if you keep your dog put up he gets all this built up energy, so when you let him out he gets crazy hyper, if he stayed out all the time he would probably calm down once he realizes he's not going back in his crate all day. but if you find yourself keeping your dog put up all the time because you don't wanna deal with him being hyper, then I would rehome him. give him to someone who will exercise him every day and give him a good life where he will be happy and healthy. my friends great dane was like that in my apartment, he only came out of his crate twice a day so he began getting depressed, I told her I'm not condoning that in my house and either take care of her dog or get rid of him. she moved him to her girlfriends house with a huge yard and lots of room to play and now he's like a completely different dog because he's happy. do what's best for your family and your dog, but honestly he will probably calm down a lot with regular exercise and more time out in the house with you :)

We have an American bulldog and a pit bulldog mix. The Am is 10years old so she's just a log on the couch most of the time but the pit mix is 15 months old and he's got a lot of energy. I raised him since he was 5weeks old so he's like my baby too. My husband takes him out and runs him till he drops. It's the only way. For me it's the hair all over the place that makes me crazy but I would never get rid of them.

@crunchymomma, @valrocks I've had my dog since he was 5 weeks, before I gave birth we always left him out and he never calmed down lol. My husband walks him 3 times a day and plays with him for like an hour those three times and it's not enough. If I had a house then I'll be good but I a have a tiny 2 bedroom apartment and my son who's 7 doesn't want him anymore.

I have two Belgian Malinois.. people explain them like alligators that had 3 five hour energies.. they are extremely hyper and all over the place. my female is not as bad because she is a trained K-9 (went to police Academy) but my male is off the walls crazy but my daughter loves the dogs even if they want to see her. wouldn't trade having them for the world. your child will become best friends with your dog trust me.

I totally understand that, I had a great dane and 2 pits in my 3 bedroom apartment with 8 people in it. have you gotten your dog fixed yet? how old is he now?

@Samanthacross218, I hope, he doesn't like me at all, he barks at me and is always ready to jump on me but when my husband is around he acts like a spoiled baby on coffee lol
