My son is 6 days old and his umbilical cord just came off but it still has a slight stink to it and looks like this...normal?

My sons doctor said to dab a qtip with alcohol on it after his bath and first thing in the morning to help dry it out and heal faster. After his stump fell off we did that and by the end of the week it was completely healed.
