Moms of bilingual children did it take a while for your children to start speaking? I hear that if there is more than one language spoken in the house it takes them a while, my son is 11 months and he still hasn't really said anything in either language.
My husband was like that. His parents are deaf even though he had speaking family members he still took a while before he actually spoke. He signed of course but his English vocabulary didn't fully developed until school. But he's really good at reading too
My sisters kids speak English and Spanish. He first child he liked Spanish because he hung out with his grandparents a lot that only speak Spanish. But he's now five and speaks both languages the same amount. Her five year old teaches his younger 4 siblings how to saw some works in Spanish. Also he translate sometimes for his grandparents.
It sort of went in phases. He used sign language first of course and kinda stuck with that the longest and then most everything was in Spanish for a while and now he favors English for sure.
Interesting. my son is(or will be) trilingual as well. He's learning English, Farsi, and Russian. Did your son favor one language over the other, and did he speak one before the other? @showersoverflowers
My son took a longer time to speak as many words as other kids but now he's definitely above average as far as vocab. He is trilingual so it definitely took time for others to pick up on when he's speaking Spanish, English, or signing. The average number is the number of words spoken in either language. Agua and water are considered two words
My dd isn't bilingual yet, but I have been signing to her since she was 10min old! She has maybe a dozen signs, but she talks like crazy! My nephew has been having three languages taught to him simultaneously as his mom (my sis) signs to him and speaks English to him, and his daddy primarily speaks Spanish to him. He speaks very well too!
