Asking for a friend. Can a man put himself on child support ? A friend of mine wants to know because his daughters mother is crazy and he wants to make sure he always has rights. His baby was born in a different state and is not on the birth certificate so he thinks by putting him self on child support it will allow him rights.

I think he can at least apply for some type of custody for those rights

child support will not give him any custody. However, he can take her to court for shared custody and he is able to sign up for child support at any time

Yes, he has to have some sort of paper trail. A check can be written and he has to make sure it makes it into her possession. Whether she cashes it or not is not his concern. Or he can take her to court and set up direct deposit

I think the court would have him do a paternity test first since he's not on the birth certificate. I wouldn't just send money and assume he now has rights. deff take it to court.

He has to have her summoned her to court for a paternity test if I'm not mistaken

He can demand a paternity test through the courts, and when it comes back that the baby is his he'll have rights even if he's not on the birth certificate.

I know I'm Ohio if you don't contact your child through phone, text, email, letter, etc for a year you lose all rights to your child but still have to pay child support. Even if is a baby send letters or call the mother to contact at least. Child support looks good but doesn't get you rights. Go to court...
