Ok ladies... I need some help. Me and my fiancé are potty training my stepson. And he has no interest in the little kid pottys so we bought one of those toilet inserts so he can sit on the big potty and not fall through. Our issue is that my stepson is a bigger than average (tall wise) 2 year old. And the toilet insert I have has a tall piece j N the middle that is supposed to stop his pee from flying all around. But since my stepson is bigger it does not do that. He just pees right over it (when he actually does pee in the toilet. We r in the very early stages of potty training.) I found a piece online that is a splash guard but it says it's for the kid pottys, but doesn't say nothing about the potty inserts. And since I have to order it online I don't want to order it and spend the money on it and then it not work and then just lose out on the money or pay to ship it back. So do any of u ladies have an idea what I can do to help him not pee everywhere or what I can buy that will work? He peed on the potty just once yesterday and when he did his pee flew everywhere and it upset him and he cried. We tried talking to him and telling him it's ok and stuff but I'm thinking that it made him scared to use the potty now. So I need help. Plus if any of u ladies have any suggestions on some potty training tips I'm open for those too. We aren't teaching him to stand and pee bc we think it may b too hard for him. So we r just teaching him to sit and pee first and once he gets that then we will teach him to stand TIA.

Just keep taking him to the bathroom and tell him what the potty is used for

@oceanprincess23, there's no point bc she doesn't even really make him go. Me and my fiancé read about potty training and everything we read said every 30-45 mins take him and put him on the potty and make him sit for 10-15 mins. (We thought that was too long so we only make him sit for 5-7 mins until he gets the hang of it.) and even when he doesn't wanna try we make him try. When she does it she asks him to go sit in the potty and he tells her no and she just says ok and let's him pee n poop in his diaper. Then she complains bc we get him to use the potty and he never goes for her. Plus we both r doing a potty chart. But the way our chart works is whenever he actually pees or poops in the potty he gets a sticker and once he gets 20 stickers he gets a new toy. At her house as long as he sits on the toilet he gets a sticker even if he doesn't go to the bathroom. And after 5 times he sits on the toilet she gives him a toy. And we told her that wouldn't work bc he has no actual incentive to use the potty. I read online that u should only give it to him when he actual goes potty. Bc if u give him a sticker just for sitting on it. Then he just sits on the potty to get his sticker and a toy and will continue to go in his diaper and not even try to go in the potty bc he gets a toy anyway. So it's hard for us to get on the same page as her. She's more interested in being her son's friend then being a parent. Even when he throws a fit bc he wants something and she tells him no after he throws a temper tantrum she gives him what he wants anyway. Where at our house that doesn't fly. If we tell him no, the answer is no. We don't cave into him.

I did find it much easier to teach my son to stand and pee. Outside even at first a little bit just to get him used to it (kinda weird but we have a super private back yard). Cheerios in the toilet help with aim.

@ocennprincess23, i wanna try that. But we only get him every other weekend and his mom has him the rest of the time. And we r scared that if we try teaching him standing up n his mom teaches him sitting down he will just get too confused.

Try to have him stand up while going pee and then sit down while going poop that's what I did with my son
